Our Heavy Vehicle Licence Courses

In addition to our Bus Driver Authority Course and Nationally Recognised Training, Intertrain also offers Heavy Vehicle Licence Courses.

A Heavy Vehicle Licence is necessary for any person looking to work in the Transport Industry, especially those who wish to become a Bus or Coach Driver.

These courses are offered both individually and also as a part of our Certificate III in Driving Operations (Bus).

The Light Rigid Licence, also known as the LR Licence is required to be held by any person driving a vehicle over 4.5 Tonnes (GVM) but does not exceed 8 Tonnes (GVM). You will also require an LR Licence if you are intending to drive a bus that carries more than 12 Adults (including the driver) with a GVM of up to 8 Tonnes.

You are permitted to tow a trailer that does not exceed 9 Tonnes GVM.

A good example of ideal candidate for someone who needs their LR Licence course is anybody who os required to drive Small Courier Trucks, a Small Motorhome, a Small Bus, an ambulance, etc.

This course is offered in Automatic / Synchromesh Gearboxes.

The Medium Rigid Licence, also known as the MR Licence is required to be held by any person driving a vehicle with 2 axles that exceeds 8 Tonnes. You are also permitted to drive a Special Purpose Vehicle such as a Tractor or a single-axle, Bob-Tail Prime Mover.

You are permitted to tow a trailer that does not exceed 9 Tonnes GVM.

A good example of an ideal candidate for someone who needs their MR Licence is anybody who is required to drive Medium Sized Delivery Trucks, Buses, Medium-Large Motorhomes, Car Carriers, etc.

The Heavy Rigid Licence, also known as the HR Licence is required to be held by any person driving a vehicle that exceeds a GVM of 8 Tonnes or has 3 or more axles.

You are permitted to tow a trailer that does not exceed 9 Tonnes GVM.

A good example of ideal candidate for someone who needs their HR Licence course is anybody who os required to drive Agitators, Large Rigid Trucks, Bendy Buses, Coaches, Twin-Steer Vehicles, Garbage Trucks, etc.

This course is offered in Automatic / Synchromesh or Road Ranger Gearboxes.

The Heavy Combination Licence, also known as the HC Licence is required to be held by any person who wishes to drive an articulated heavy vehicle with 3 or more axles. Some examples of this would be a Single Semi-Trailer with a GVM that exceeds 9 Tonnes (GVM).

This course is offered in Automatic / Synchromesh or Road Ranger / Constant-Mesh Gearboxes.

The Multi-Combination Licence, also known as the MC Licence is required by any person who is intending to operate B Double, Low-Loader, Lo-Loader-Dolly, B-Doubles and Road Trains.
